Dr Enda Whelan
My name is Enda Whelan, I am a general dental practitioner in Portlaoise.
- I qualified as a dentist from University College Cork in 1991.
- Following graduation, I worked in general practice in the UK as an associate in several practices.
- I returned to Ireland in 1995 and worked for a year for the HSE.
- In 1997 I established a new general practice in Portlaoise. This has expanded into a three-surgery practice where I work full time.
- I am an active member of the committee of the Southeast branch of the IDA.
- I have advocated for dentistry on local radio and national TV at the behest of the IDA.
- I was a Trainer on the vocational training scheme for several years during which I mentored new graduates in their first years in general practice.
- I am familiar with the increasing demands and pressure of operating as a GDP.
- Given the opportunity I would hope to use this experience and knowledge to guide future Dental Council decisions for the good of both patient and clinician.
- Most dentists on the dental register are GDP’s however they will hold a minority of positions on the Dental Council. I passionately believe it is essential to have as many GDP’s as possible on Dental Council, to assure our representation at a high level.
I request your vote in the upcoming dental council elections.
