The Dental Council made a submission to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health regarding the challenges facing dentistry in Ireland. This was a broad invitation and it was the first time the council’s opinion was sought on a range of topics concerning regulation and some wider questions in the dental sector. The topics covered in the council’s letter include:
Illegal practice and strengthening dental regulation
Ways to address the workforce shortages and how Ireland does not train enough dentists
Potential risks for dental training providers
Non surgical cosmetic procedures and dentistry
How Ireland has outsourced orthodontic training to the UK
